One year ago, at this time, I was in a mental state of anguish. So much so that I was not able to function. With a little bit of the right kind of food, exercise, medication and the summer sun, I was able to turn my heart health around, and my mental health came along with it.
On August 29, 2008, my Cholesterol Test came back at 245. Not what I needed to hear, with my families heart history. So I said to myself, this is it, time for something different. With a bit of luck, I found a small heart study done in one of the Scandinaviann countries. One test group ate Vegan, and the other test group ate the "Pyramid."(The recommended balanced diet.) The average weight loss of the Vegan Group was 10 pounds, with a high increase in heart health. The other group remained the same. With my Cholesterol climbing, I needed to pay attention.
So no meat, milk, or gluten to start. After the first week my finger nails began to show white spots. I kept on watching them grow out from the roots of my nails, for the next few months, until I cut the clear marks of diet change off on January 1, 2009.
The second significant change that I noticed is that my craving for sweets diminished, when I stopped eating meat. For some reason the Glucose level in my blood stabilized. Though I ate many different kind of nuts, I decided to eat Salmon for the Omega 3. I felt that I needed that to get good Cholesterol into my system. Also my anxious panic attacks and depression was much diminished.
I lost 10 pounds in the first three months, but now I am at a plateau. The result of my 3 month Cholesterol test was great. All readings were in the average range, and my overall Cholesterol reading was 187. A drop of 68 points in 3 months. I felt totally in control of my destiny. Now I probably have more time to live, so that I can try to "Change the World."
I shared my success with my GYN doctor at my annual exam, in the beginning of December. She said to me, "Soon you will be able to cut off all the bad health."
Happy Valentine's Day. Have a good one!
